Bush says the Star Spangled Banner should be sung in english

BREITBART.COM - Bush Says Anthem Should Be in English: "'One of the things that's very important is, when we debate this issue, that we not lose our national soul,' the president exclaimed. 'One of the great things about America is that we've been able to take people from all walks of life bound as one nation under God. And that's the challenge ahead of us.'

A Spanish language version of the national anthem was released Friday by a British music producer, Adam Kidron, who said he wanted to honor America's immigrants.

When the president was asked at a Rose Garden question-and-answer session whether the anthem should be sung in Spanish, he replied: 'I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English, and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English.'
...
'I think people who want to be citizens of this country ought to learn English,' Bush said."

Yay! A top republican standing up, however so little, for America.
Its simple how this immigration works:
1. Register for immigrant status
2. Learn English
3. Pass the citizenship test
4. Welcome to America!

Not:
1. Violate a bunch of laws
2. Become a leach off the backs of americans
3. Try and take back the Southwest for Mexico
4. Burn and defame the US Flag.

I would not like to see Spainish become an official language of the USA.

We have an awful lot of Urdu and Bengali speakers in the UK from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. So many of them have very poor English.

Every Blessing in Christ

I watched this on the news and disagree with Bush. Spanish is already our secondary language, whether we admit it or not.

It's true that Hispanic immigrants should learn English to operate within the US, since English is our 'official' language, but we should not supress the Latino culture by forcing Americanism on them. If they want to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in Spanish, great, but they should be able to sing it in English as well.

I think you missed the point here. By entering america, wheather as a US Citizen or as a criminal, they are entering the american culture. They come by free choice, not because they are forced to. The Latino culture should stay in the latino nations, not invade America. If I were to go down to El Salvador or something and start making everyone speak english, then yes, that would be forceing american culture. But having the national anthem in the national language is not forceing anything.

you don't have to "leave your culture at home" and you don't have to sing the song in English. In this country, you can sing however the hell you want. that's sort of the idea of "freedom" isn't it?

who really cares? why are you so threatened?

Good grief - to the above comment.

Robert, I see where you are coming from, but we are the melting pot of the world. What makes America so unique is because we are so diverse.

Diversity is fine, as long as it's freaken done legally. Not illegaly, which is what I am mad about.

Good grief is right Carey. :D

what exactly is "illegal diversity?"
and what does that have to do with singing a song in Spanish? also, your spelling is atrocious.

Robert, I know what you mean. In my opinion, Latinos should come legally into the US and at least speak English well enough to sucessfully manage the workforce. But, hey, if they want to sing the Star Spangled Banner in Spanish, that's okay - as long as they can sing it in English too. Their culture is very unique, and should be celebrated - but at the same time, they should have a grasp on mainstream American culture. It is hard to adapt to a new culture, but that is the price you pay when immigrating to a new country. Celebrate your heritage, but also embrace the new.

It is rather irritating to find people (of any national origin) who think they can enjoy the benefits of Americans without successfully mastering our official language and legally entering our country.

I think I've blabbed enough. Make sense?

Yup.
Pretty dang close to what I was thinking as well. Just don't wave the flag of a forign nation as 'celebrating culture' on US territory while being illegal.

*laughs* Honestly, I haven't met many males -- I could count them on one hand -- who have immaculate spelling. Must be a male trait. Jer can't spell worth a dime, either.

Robert, glad we agree. Sorry, I have this knack for waving flags at people -- and it's usually unintended. That's just me... weird.
